TL16C754B interrupt signals

The data sheet states in Terminal Descriptions on page 3 that INTA-D are the interrupt lines.  The description in the Modem Control Register on page 29 (Table 12) appears to refer to these as IRQ(A-D).  In Table 8 on page 26, MCR bit 3 is labeled "IRQ Enable."  Are the INT / IRQ designators all for the same signals?  This is potentially confusing.

There is also reference to signals IRQ3-IRQ15, DRO0, DRO1, and DRO3 in Note 9 on page 18 - this is the only mention of these signals, so the note really doesn't seem to make much sense for this part.

One more question: should a weak pulldown be used on the INTA-D signals for the case in which they might be disabled so as not to leave them floating?

  • Hi Peter,

INT and IRQ are used somewhat interchangeably in the datasheet. The lines should be referred to as INTA-INTD in the datasheet. The reference to IRQ is based on the original PC standard interrupt request signals and I am not sure why that carried over to our datasheet. Table 8 should refer to "INT Enable" and not "IRQ Enable". The modem control register should also refer to these signals as INTA-INTD.

Note 9 on page 18 should also refer to INTA-INTD. I'm not sure why the PC interrupts IRQ3-IRQ15 are referenced. I do not know what DRO1 - DRO3 signals are.

INTA-INTD are outputs and do not require a weak pull-down resister if they are not connected to the processor interrupts.

Thank you for pointing out the inconsistency. I will submit the changes to the technical documentation team.

    Best Regards,

    Joe
