TIC12400-Q1: Operation with 24V automotive battery rail

Part Number: TIC12400-Q1

MSDI/Automotive:

Is there a solution to make the TIC12400-Q1 work in a 24V battery system? I've seen the application brief SCPA061 wich shows a possible solution, however, I wonder if the wetting current would still be functional in such scenario.

  • Hello Lucca,

The TIC12400-Q1 was designed to support 24V voltage levels and the transistors are sized appropriately to handle these voltage levels as indicated by the Abs Max ratings.  Yes the wetting current will function if the device is directly used with 24V.

However, prolonged exposure to higher voltages could lead to long term damage and reduce the lifespan of the device in a very small subset of devices and it is not recommend to use this device with direct exposure to DC voltage levels greater than 16V as indicated in the datasheet.

If the device is to be used in a 24V system, voltage dividers are recommended to maintain DC voltage levels on the device pins to 16V or less.

    Regards,

    Jonathan
