DS90UB988-Q1: How many displays can be supported if the bandwidth is sufficient

Part Number: DS90UB988-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

We would like to use the DS90UB988-Q1 Daisy Chain to link more display module, How many displays can be supported if the bandwidth is sufficient?

Does display has aspect ratio restrictions?

Thank you.

  • Hi Aaron,

In general, our serializers can process 4 video streams, this will enable 2 distinct images to be driven by the serializer to a designated deserializer, with each DS90UB988 deserializer capable of processing up to 2 video streams for local output and forward remaining streams downstream on FPD-Link IV link.

Increasing the number of displays will increase bandwidth usage - as long as their is sufficient bandwidth for the desired resolutions on the FPD-Link IV line, the aspect ratio will be unaffected.

We can provide better support if you can elaborate more on the application needs - please provide a block diagram if possible.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Sir,

==>Can it be understood that the 983 serial device can provide 4 video data to 2*988 IC or 4*988 IC deserializer devices?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Aaron,

Can it be understood that the 983 serial device can provide 4 video data to 2*988 IC or 4*988 IC deserializer devices?

Your understanding is correct. In the case of sending 4x video streams to 2x DS90UB988 devices (each 988 consuming 2 video streams), each video stream must be within the single OLDI output PCLK bandwidth of 210MHz. Consuming 1x video stream per 988 device(4x video streams to 4x DS90UB988) will allow dual OLDI output capabilities.

    Thanks,
