TCAN1043A-Q1: Detailed difference between TCAN1043A-Q1 and TCAN1043-Q1

Part Number: TCAN1043A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043-Q1, , TCAN1043HG-Q1, TCAN1043N-Q1, TCAN1043G-Q1, TCAN1043, TCAN1043H-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Expert,

Can I get the detailed difference between  TCAN1043A-Q1 and TCAN1043-Q1?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Mostafa,

    I've attached the slides here.

  • Hi Sean,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Can I get more detailed analysis if available? Also can I use this document only to migrate from TCAN1043-Q1 to TCAN1043A-Q1 without any problems?

    Regards,

    Mostafa

  • Hi Mostafa,

14 Pin CAN Comparison Matrix (1).xlsx

Not sure if this would help but here is another comparison matrix, the document above should be enough for migration. They are pin to pin compatible device which means you can migrate from TCAN1043-Q1 to TCAN1043A-Q1 without hardware change, however they have some differences in behavior so it might need software modification. The major difference is SWE timer on TCAN1043A-Q1 only, if the transceiver stays in standby mode for > 4 mins the transceiver will enter sleep mode automatically to save power.

  • Hi Sean,

Thank you for your input and sorry for the late reply

I wanted to confirm my understanding regarding the following point

TCAN1043A-Q1 is a different family from TCAN1043-Q1 (TCAN1043xx-Q1)? Because as I see, they're similar in some ways but they have separate datasheets.

Also transacting from sleep mode to normal mode have more requirements for TCAN1043A-Q1? Is my understanding correct?

  • Hi Mostafa,

They are similar devices, but not the in the same variant (i.e.,TCAN1043H-Q1, TCAN1043G-Q1, TCAN1043HG-Q1). TCAN1043A-Q1 is a newer device with many behavior difference, also used newer technology. If you are looking for a drop-in replacement but updated version of TCAN1043-Q1, the option will be TCAN1043N-Q1. It's closer to TCAN1043-Q1 and we made it to complaint with the newest ISO11898-2:2024 standard. Here is a comparison table between TCAN1043, TCAN1043A, TCAN1043N (ignore the TCAN1473 part, this is a CAN SIC part):

    TCAN1043A_N__TCAN1473_A_Comparison.PDF

For TCAN1043A-Q1, it is not having more requirements for transition from sleep to standby mode, it's an added feature called SWE timer (sleep wake error) that will force the transceiver to enter sleep mode, if it being idle in standby and not change to other modes for a couple of minutes. The purpose is to reduce the power consumption in case there is software error thus the transceiver being stuck in standby mode. If this feature will cause an issue in your system, and you can not modify the software, then you may need to consider using TCAN1043N-Q1, as this is a feature cannot be disabled on TCAN1043A-Q1.

    Sean
