TCAN2451-Q1: Exact Meaning of "ES"

Part Number: TCAN2451-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

Our compnay recently used to SBC IC(TCAN2451). It is proceed component. So, now status ES2.0 and then it will be updated ES2.1 version.

But, I don't know "ES" word mean.

Regards,

TICSC

  • Hi TICSC,

    ES means engineering sample.

In the format ESX.Y --> X is the major revision and Y is the minor revision.

So ES2.1 means engineering sample major revision 2, minor revision 1.

Essentially it is pre-production material that can be used to start development on projects but since it is pre-production material there may be future changes and/or bug fixes when found in earlier revisions. Major revisions usually will change a lot - to the point where firmware will most likely need to change as well as potentially adding new features where minor revisions are typically minor bug fixes and generally won't impact the overall guidance we suggest to design with the devices.

Also you can tell the customer they can contact me directly for these types of questions - I have worked with them in the past so they should have my contact information.

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
