TUSB2E11: 2 series connection for achieving USB2.0-USB2.0 repeater

Part Number: TUSB2E11
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB211A

Tool/software:

Hello Expert,

I'm looking for USB2.0-USB2.0 repeater for debug use case.
As far as I confirmed TI don't have this kind of device.(TI have USB2.0 redriver but it don't cut D+/D- line. We need to cut this line by repeater or retimer for debug).
Then, I found TUSB2E11.

This device is USB2.0-eUSB2.0 repeater so it can cut D+/D- lane.
So I suppose that we can achieve USB2.0-USB2.0 repeater by follow 2 series connection of TUSB2E11.

SoC <=> USB/IF 2E11① - eUSB/IF 2E11① <=> eUSB/IF 2E11② - USB/IF 2E11② <=> connector

Is this configuration acceptable?

Best regards,
Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Hello Kazuki-san,

    This is not possible.  An eUSB2 repeater needs to be controlled through eUSB2 by an eUSB2 host or an eUSB2 device.

    As far as I am aware, there are no USB 2.0 retimers on the market.   Usually, a USB 2.0 redriver like the TUSB211A would correct for signal integrity issues unless the loss is very high.
