DP83869HM: LED and pin strap

Part Number: DP83869HM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869

Tool/software:

I am working on putting a schematic together using the DP83869HM and am looking for guidance on the LED pins. If i want to have the three LEDs just show status, how should i configure these pins so that they only rely on the MDIO/MDC. My concern is that if i set the LEDs to GND or pulled up then it will set the PHY in some particular mode.

Thanks

  • Hi Jose,

Just to clarify, you want to connect the LED pins on the DP83869 to LEDs without any physical strapping (Pullup/pulldown resistors)?

All LED pins have weak internal pulldowns that will set the LED straps to '0' by default. depending on what mode of operation the PHY is in, this will have different effects. For example, if you plan to use RGMII/SGMII to copper (RJ-45) mode, this will enable auto negotiation for 1000/100/10 Mbps speeds by default:

The status indication for each LED can be changed through the MDIO/MDC interface using the LEDS_CFG1 register:

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

    Best,

    Shane
