TLK10002: SerDes for LVDS length extension

Part Number: TLK10002
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS560DF410

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have three LVDS lanes which operate at 16Gbps (max) each; line encoding is 128b/132b. I need to serialize them, pass them through an SFP optical link and then deserialize them and reconstruct the original LVDS bus.

Is TLK10002 or any other chip (e.g. DS90UB983/4) able to perform this task?

Thanks in advance,

E.

  • Hi E,

Is my understanding correct that your SFP optical link would need at least 48 Gbps bandwidth?

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Yes, your understanding is correct.

  • Hi E,

My group does not have any devices suitable for this.  The closest device that comes to mind is DS560DF410.  However, it only enables gearboxing 2:1 data, and 16 Gbps is not within its CDR lock range.

I'll loop in FPD-link team (supporting DS90 devices) to comment on this.

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi E,

Our FPD-Link portfolio does not include any products which can serialize or aggregate LVDS lanes at this speed. FPD-Link devices are intended for operation with camera or video interfaces and require a serializer + deserializer pair to be used.

We have products which support DisplayPort, HDMI, MIPI DSI, MIPI CSI-2, and OpenLDI. Data is sent across a coax or STP cable with a max data rate of ~13Gbps, depending on device used. Let me know if these products might be fitting for your application.

    Best,

    Lucas

  • Lucas, thank you for the information.

In the scenario that I reduce the speed of my LVDS bus to 13Gbps, could I use the pair DS90UB983 / DS90UB984 to serialize/deserialize the LVDS data by using only D0, D1, D2 lanes and not connect the D3, AUX, HPD? Would this scheme be able to reconstruct the LVDS bus on the other side?

Also, can the device pair above be used with optical link instead of coax/STP cable?

    Thanks,

    E.

  • Hi E,

I'm reassigning to another engineer who supports UB983/UB984.

    Best,

    Lucas

  • Hi E,

If you are looking for a serializer that takes in LVDS data, and a deserializer that outputs LVDS data, then I would suggest the DS90UB947/DS90UB948. These devices can support up to 6 Gbps data rate.

LVDS data by using only D0, D1, D2 lanes and not connect the D3, AUX, HPD

    This is fine.

The DS90UB983 takes in DP data and the DS90UB984 outputs DP data, and they can support up to 25.92 Gbps (8.1 Gbps/DP lane x 4 DP lanes x 8b/10b encoding).

If you have a DSI or DP source, you can use the 981 or 983 (respectively) and pair it with a 988 deserializer, which outputs LVDS data, to obtain a higher data rate.

Also, can the device pair above be used with optical link instead of coax/STP cable?

Our devices only support coax and STP cable.

    Here are my suggestions.

    BR,

    Esther
