TMUXHS4446: Need Mux details

Part Number: TMUXHS4446
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUXHS4612, HD3SS3220

Tool/software:

Hi,

  • Do we have a similar mux that supports DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 (20 Gbps)?

  • In this mux, can I route USB SuperSpeed (USB SS) signals through the DP input pins, since those I/Os are listed as "I/O" in datasheet?

  • Is there an external GPIO(Select line) pin available for selecting between the USB SS and DP paths, or is this selection managed solely through I²C control?

  • Is there an external pin to indicate USB-C cable orientation (flip detection), or is this also handled via I²C?

  • Hi,

1.Another similar multiplexer that states it can handle Display port 2.1 UHBR20(20 Gbps) is the TMUXHS4612

    2. You cannot route the ss pins to DP pins. This is because this device is a 4:6 Crosspoint switch and here are the configurations below

SS and Dp pins only go to CX pins

3.Yes there is a way to control this device with GPIO logic.

4.This device doesn't not have built in flip detection circuitry and something like the HD3SS3220 should be a better fit if you are looking for that functionality.

Please let me know what you think and I can assist further

  • Hi,

My USB SS and DP signals are internally muxed inside SoC. I am planning to use just a DP path to support flip. Now my question is will there be any issue if I am trying to do USB SS communication with the mux mode change inside SoC. I,e USB SS signals are driven through DP pins at that point. Since DP pins are mentioned as IO in the datasheet. I think this should work.

  • Hi,

Thank you for this info and yes this application should be fine because the DP pins are io pins where you can send signals bidirectionally.

There are no issues i see with your application but please let me know if you  need any further assistance.

    Regards,
