TLIN2021A-Q1: TLIN2021A to pass ISO21780 (test-12) Ground Loss test

Part Number: TLIN2021A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLIN2021-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear team

our customer's Automotive HVAC motor team recently encountered a problem about the testing ISO21780 (test-12) Ground Loss

Once the 48V motor disconnects from the ground trace, the motor MCU based driver’s integrated LIN transceiver injects the voltage, causing the LINBus ramping to 29V.

According to ISO21780 test 12, the voltage of the LINbus should not exceed 16V.

our customer right now wants to know whether implementing the discrete (external) LIN transceiver, Like our TLIN2021-Q1, can help it pass the ISO21780 test 12.

If implement only TLIN2021-Q1 cannot solve the problem, please suggest adding other device or circuitry. Sincerely thanks!!!

Best regards,

Hank Lin

  • Hi Hank,

Yes you may use the device. However, ensure an external TVS diode between LIN and GND rated for < 16 V should also be used to prevent the LIN bus from rising above the 16 V limit , thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.

  • Dear Michael,

thanks for your advice. we will try your suggestion soon.

our customer has the further question about

for the LINBus, do we recommend customer to applied the over voltage protection device that can:

    1. ensure the LIN interface works properly.

    2. disconnet the MCU integrated LIN or our TLIN device to hte LINbus while LINbus voltage over 16V?

Is Efuse with OVP feature suitable here?

    Best regards,

    Hank Lin

  • Hi Hank,

Yes external protection is recommended and protects the device or the MCU. Efuse us okay if it allows LIN operation below 16 V and limits current as needed, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
