TCAN1043A-Q1: Receiver Timing Symmetry

Part Number: TCAN1043A-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I have a question from customer related to the TCAN1043A and TCAN1146D receiver timing symmetry (ΔtREC).
In the datasheet of the TCAN1146D (Chapter 8.9 Switching Characteristics), it is stated that the ΔtREC at 2Mbps is intended for use with bit rates above 1 Mbps up to 2 Mbps and ΔtREC at 5Mbps above 2 Mbps up to 5 Mbps, see below screenshot.

In the datasheet of the TCAN1043A (Chapter 6.10 Switching Characteristics), such statement is not mentioned, see below screenshot.

Question:
Is such receiver timing symmetry statement from TCAN1146D also applicable for the TCAN1043A?
Means, are the following specification valid for TCAN1043A?

  1. ΔtREC_min=-50ns and ΔtREC_max=+20ns are intended for use with bit rates above 1Mbps up to 2Mbps.
  2. ΔtREC_min=-45ns and ΔtREC_max=+10ns are intended for use with bit rates above 2Mbps up to 5Mbps.
  3. ΔtREC_min=-25ns and ΔtREC_max=+10ns are intended for use with bit rates above 5Mbps up to 8Mbps.

Thank you,

Muwei Zheng

  • Hi Muwei,

The receiver timing ranges listed in the TCAN114x datasheet are not applicable to TCAN1043A.

The TCAN1043A datasheet technically is more specific on this symmetry spec than the TCAN114x datasheet as it lists the exact bit time in nanoseconds.

Can you inform me why the customer is comparing the symmetry spec for these particular devices?

    Best,

    Ethan

  • Hi Ethan,

Thank you and I understand the condition for TCAN114x and TCAN1043A are different.

If possible, can you let us know what receiver timing symmetry is applicable for the following bit times (bitrates):

    1) t_bit =  1/(1400*103) s (Bitrate: 1.4Mbit/s)
    2) t_bit =  1/(2500*103) s (Bitrate: 2.5Mbit/s)
    3) t_bit =  1/(3300*103) s (Bitrate: 3.3Mbit/s)

  • Hi Muwei,

The TCAN1043A datasheet only guarantees the specs for 500, 200, and 125ns (which correlates to 2Mbps, 5Mbps, and ~ 8Mbps). The customer needs to either measure this timing, or they need to use the tBIT = 500ns and 200ns for an approximation.

    Best,

    Ethan

  • Hi Ethan,

Sorry for one follow up question from customer.

Customer are actually measuring the timing symmetry of the TCAN1043A and TCAN1146D.
They are trying to figure out the criteria to check if the measurement meets the specifications using the following bit timing (rates):
    1) t_bit =  1/(1400*103) s (Bitrate: 1.4Mbit/s)

    2) t_bit =  1/(2500*103) s (Bitrate: 2.5Mbit/s)

    3) t_bit =  1/(3300*103) s (Bitrate: 3.3Mbit/s)

What criteria for ΔtREC_min and ΔtREC_max, should we use for above bit timings (rates) ?
    Is the following proposal okay?

    1. Measured on TCAN1043A
    1. ΔtREC_min=-50ns and ΔtREC_max=+20ns as criteria for our use case for 1.4Mbit/s
    2. ΔtREC_min=-45ns and ΔtREC_max=+10ns as criteria for our use case for 2.5Mbit/s and 3.3Mbit/s
    1. Measured on TCAN1146D
    1. ΔtREC_min=-60ns and ΔtREC_max=+35ns as criteria for our use case for 1.4Mbit/s
    2. ΔtREC_min=-45ns and ΔtREC_max=+10ns as criteria for our use case for 2.5Mbit/s and 3.3Mbit/s
  • Hi Muwei,

Generally yes, that should be a good approximation.

    Best,

    Ethan
