DP83TG720R-Q1: Cable distances

Part Number: DP83TG720R-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83TD510E

Tool/software:

Hello, I have set the part number DP83TG720R-Q1 to the question, but it is more general.

Which are the cable distances we can reach using 10BASE-T1L, 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1 with your PHYs?

Thanks and best regards,

Carlos

  • Hi Carlos,

The 10BASE-T1L products are generally suitable for 2000+ meters. The 100BASE-T1 products have been tested with cable lengths up to 15 meters. The 1000BASE-T1 products are also generally intended for cable lengths of 15 meters or less but alternate cable types may be able to reach further. If you need more details, I can put you in touch with our marketing team.

    Best,

    Evan Su

  • Also a small FYI, I have edited your post title to shorten it because the length was starting to impact our thread organization interface. For future queries you can just pick one part number and it will still be routed to our teams correctly, and the title can be used for a short summary of content.

  • Thank you Su. One last question.

If PoDL is used with the DP83TD510E, which distance can be reach? and what power can be delivered?

I know that the limit will be defined by the PSE and PD, but I was hoping that you could lead me to a start point in this matter.

  • Hi Carlos,

I have CC'd another team member more familiar with the DP83TD510E to answer your PoDL questions.

  • Hi Carlos,

Unfortunately, we do not have enough data to specify the exact cable reach with PoDL, however, we do expect the range to be lower than non-PoDL implementations since the signal quality is slightly degraded with the application of PoDL. This app note may be helpful to ensure that cable reach is being maximized in this particular application.

The amount of power delivered depends largely on the application itself. A good starting point to explore this would be this app note, discussing the PSE design implementation, which talks a little about the different power classes available.
