TIC12400-Q1: Wetting Current Diagnostic

Part Number: TIC12400-Q1

Tool/software:

Per page43-44 of datasheet:

8.4.3.4 Wetting Current Diagnostic
When the TIC12400-Q1 is used to monitor safety-critical switches, it may be valuable for the microcontroller
to have knowledge of the operating status of the wetting current sources and sinks. This can be achieved by
activating the wetting current diagnostic feature provided for inputs IN0 to IN3. IN0 and IN1 can be diagnosed for
defective wetting current sources, while IN2 and IN3 can be diagnosed for defective current sinks.

Also, it is critical to configure the current source/sink appropriately (CSO for IN0 and IN1, and CSI for IN2 and IN3) and program the input to ADC input
mode before activating the wetting current diagnostic feature to prevent false interrupts from being generated.

Questions:

1, In my application,  CSI for IN1 and IN2, CSO for IN2 and IN3, does it mean that wetting current Diagnostic can't be enabled for us?

2, If IN0,IN1 be used for comparator mode, does it mean that no wetting current Diagnostic function would be enabled for such application?

Thanks!

  • Hello Hou,

We are looking into this and will respond shortly. Thank you!

    Regards,

    Josh

  • Hello Hou,

Did you mean to say, "CSI for IN0 and IN1, CS0 for IN2 and IN3" ?

To enable Wetting Current Diagnostic, we need to configure IN0 and IN1 to CSO and IN2 and IN3 to CSI. Additionally, current diagnostic only works for inputs configured as ADC and not comparator.

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,

Further question:when enabling wetting current diagnostic feature for IN0 and IN2,configure IN0 CSO,IN2 to CSI.

If wetting current diagnostic for IN0 and IN2 test pass,  does it mean that all wetting current sources and sinks of 24 channels are in good operating status?

    Thanks!

  • Hello Hou,

Unfortunately no, wetting current diagnostic is used to monitor safety-critical switches and featured on IN0 - IN3 only.

Inputs are independent of one another. However, all inputs have the same CSO/CSI architecture and we can safely assume if one input is in good working condition then the other inputs are too.

    Regards,

    Josh
