USB-TO-GPIO2: How to Configure USB-To-GPIO Tools

BQWizard does not seem to be compatible with USB-TO-GPIO2 at this time

Thank you for your prompt response.

as you can see my screenshot reply in the previous post,

1. I have try the USB-To-GPIO Firmware Loader you mention in the link, but "no devices found" was prompted. I unable to perform any downloading or upgrading the firmware. I have checked various forum from TI E2E, it seem very limited information and not really helpful.

2. I have tried the Fusion Digital Power Designer which is recommended from the instruction guide, it pops an message "No USB Adapter Found".

It seems like none of the software can detect the interface adapter.

Please advice what step I should proceed?

The Fusion Digital Power Designer is designed to support the USB-TO-GPIO2 so this seems to be an issue with Windows detecting the adapter. Can you check your device manager to see if the adapter is detected? Does the light on the front of the adapter turn on when connected?

The USB-TO-GPIO2 is designed to be plug and play and the no adapter found error is usually pc related. A defective unit is very unlikely, if multiple USB-TO-GPIO2 adapters cannot be detected then we can typically narrow the issue down to the pc or some setting on the pc

The adaptor green LED light up, but the device manager does not appear any USB devices after plug in.

I have try windows 11, windows 10, and other PC, it comes with the same result. unable to detect the device.

The USB interface device remain undetectable.

Please advice what to do next?

Hi Ben, 

The green light means that the hardware is powered successfully. Unfortunately, if the device cannot be detected by windows then it won't be detected by Fusion Digital Power Designer. USB-TO-GPIO2 is designed to be plug & play with windows systems and the probability of a defective device is very low, so you may find the same behavior with a second USB-TO-GPIO2 especially if the problem is related to the OS. Perhaps there is some USB security restrictions on Windows. I recommend double checking with your IT in this case

I do not agree with your statement, if the Windows System cause the problem it unlikely window 10, window 11, and I have try 4 laptop as well as 1 desktop. It appear the same symptoms (undetected).

I borrow a USB interface from other department and plug into these same PC.

1. Fusion Digital Power Designer is working, detected device ID and able to access I2C interface.

2. USB-to-GPIO firmware loader is working, it detected the device and able to update firmware.

However, when switch back to the new one, it remain not working.

Please advice what to verified to make it work?

Thats good news! If a second adapter works on the same computers, then it appears the issue is local to the original adapter. The best solution I can suggest is using a different adapter for this case. I will not be able to recover the failed adapter

Once last question, can you confirm that the USB interface adapter 2022 can work with BQ wizard software?

No I cannot confirm. I have never used BQWizard and I am not familiar with it. Please reach out to Alan from the original thread and ask what adapter he recommends for BQWizard. I do not know if the BQ team have used the USB-TO-GPIO2

The previous post Alan suggest to create another post for USB to GPIO for configuration, I could not received a workable method.

Can you recommend someone who expertise on this, or where should I post for understanding how should USB-to-GPIO2 work with BQ Wizard.

Hi Ben, 

The BQWizard team may not use USB-TO-GPIO2. In that case, they should be able to answer which adapter they use & which adapter they recommend for use with BQWizard. I will leave a comment on that thread and get the conversation going again for you

I believe you have 1 working adapter, you may try BQwizard with this tool - if it is detected in Fusion Digital Power Designer but not in BQWizard then that likely confirms that BQWizard is not compatible with USB-TO-GPIO2
