TSM24A-Q1: Can it protect 2000V surge based on IEC 61000-4-5?

Part Number: TSM24A-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer is looking for the device which can protect surge situation.

My customer said that it should be protected 2000V based on IEC 61000-4-5.

But in the datasheet it says ;

Peak pulse power (8/20us)(max) = 28000W

IEC 61000-4-5 = 60A

Vrwm = 24V

Can it protect 2000V? or just can protect up to 24V?

Could you recommend protection IC which my customer is looking for?

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    Please see the following except from our App Note on IEC 61000-4-x transients:

    Assuming you are using 42Ohm Req, the 60A rating of TSM24A-Q1 passes the 48A Maximum Peak Current Value required. This shows this device can protect against the 2kV IEC 61000-4-5 surge classification.

    The 24V refers to the operating/working voltage of the device. This indicates that the device should be placed on a line with 24V nominal or below.

    Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

    Best Regards,
