TLK2711-SP: Line driver protection mechanism

For FMEA analysis, we need to know if there is adequate protection of the TLK2711-SP's driver in the case that the far end receiver has one pin shorted to GND (or Vcc). We could not find any such info within the data sheet, we don't know if there is a relevant AN that we missed. Thank you in advance.

HI Ioannis,

Typically, TLK2711-SP TX is AC coupled to the far end receiver. This helps mitigate any propagation of short on RX to TX.
A short on the far end receiver would fall within the absolute maximum ratings of the device DOUT. Based on this, we would not expect permanent damage to the device based on this condition.

Hi Drew,

Thank you for your prompt response!

In case of short to GND, in our application (2.5G, 10nF blocking)
the Zc = Zload = 6mOhms, is this OK for the driver? Obviously I'm
missing something since I see no ratings for the max Iout.

Hi Ioannis,

I think the absolute maximum ratings indirectly answers this question. The driver is rated from -0.35 to VDDA + 0.35 V. If the driver can handle a short to GND or VDDA, then it could also handle a short isolated by AC coupling capacitors.
