LMH0395: Inquiry Regarding LMH0395 Usage and Reclocker Requirement for SMPTE 292M Design

Part Number: LMH0395
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS110DF410, LMH0397

Tool/software:

Dear Texas Instruments Support Team,

I am currently designing an SMPTE 292M (HD-SDI) receiver interface and considering using the LMH0395 equalizer IC for cable equalization in my design.

Could you please advise if the LMH0395 alone is sufficient for handling typical SMPTE 292M cable lengths, or if it is recommended to use an additional reclocker IC for proper signal integrity and jitter management? If a reclocker is recommended, could you suggest suitable TI reclocker ICs compatible with this application?

Thank you for your support and guidance.

Best regards,

Kalandar Shafi.

  • Dear Texas Instruments Support Team,

I am designing an SMPTE 292M (HD-SDI) receiver system and would like to know if I can use the DS110DF410SQ/NOPB IC instead of the LMH0395 equalizer in my design.

Could you please confirm whether the DS110DF410SQ/NOPB can replace the LMH0395 for SMPTE 292M applications? Additionally, is there a need to include a reclocker IC in this signal chain to ensure optimal signal integrity and jitter performance?

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your guidance.

    Best regards,

    Kalandar shafi.

  • Hi Kalandar,

DS110DF410 will not be able to lock for 3G SDI signal.
Reclocker IC will ensure optimal jitter performance.

We recommend LMH0395 for equalizer or LMH0397 for equalizer+reclocker solution.

    Best,
    J

  • Dear J,

    Thank you for your Reply.

I hope this message finds you well.

I am currently working on a project involving the SMPTE 292M standard (HD-SDI at 1.5 Gbps), and I have a technical question regarding signal integrity over standard cable lengths.

Specifically, I would like to know whether the use of an equalizer alone (without a reclocker IC) is sufficient to maintain reliable signal quality over typical cable lengths (e.g., up to 100 meters with standard coaxial cables like Belden 1694A or equivalent). In this context, avoiding the use of a reclocker is not an issue for our design constraints.

Could you please confirm if the equalizer alone can support this use case, or if additional signal conditioning (such as a reclocker) is strongly recommended for robust operation?

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

    Best regards,

    Kalandar Shafi.

  • Hi Kalandar,

Equalizer (LMH0395) alone should be able to support cable length upto 220m over 1.5Gbps.
