Hello expert,

My customer would like to know if DS90UB953-Q1 internal ESD is uni-direction or bi-direction. They tested with 8kV ESD fail so their customer is asking for this question. Thanks a lot!

The ISO/AEC ESD tests test both positive and negative voltages.

Hi Ann,

In addition to the previous response, ESD ratings within the datasheet pertain to ESD strikes supported directly to the part without sustaining damage to the device. If exceeding these ratings, additional ESD diodes are recommended. Ratings do not pertain to system level performance.

Hi Ann,

Yes, this is supported however please note the datasheet qualification pertain to ESD strikes that would not permanently damage the device, this metric is not based on system level performance.

Hi Ann,

Thanks for opening this new thread. Note that this case you mentioned is the system level ESD spec. In this case it sounds like Whetron is testing powered system level ESD & checking for disrupted video. The datasheet spec defines if the IC will be damaged by an ESD strike which is a bit different.

I'll close this thread here & we can work in the new thread for the system level ESD.
