DS90UB948-Q1: DS90UB948:About the recommended values of MAP

Part Number: DS90UB948-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are communicating using the DS90UB948 and DS90UB927. TI states the recommended results for MAP as follows:

"TI recommends having a margin of at least three EQ levels with four passing strobe positions, including a contiguous rectangle of passing states that measures two EQ levels by four strobe positions."

What is the reason for requiring this margin?

One reason mentioned was the aging of the cable. Other reasons might include the belief that having this margin would allow for stable communication under AEQ conditions when noise increases or when the temperature environment changes.

Best,

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

Your understanding is correct. The second explanation is more aligned with our rationale. Three EQ levels and four passing strobe positions show stability in the recovered eye diagram. This stability would allow for some tolerance of additional loss/jitter/noise in the system during variation in environment such as VDD, temperature, etc.

    Thanks,
