TCAN1042HG-Q1: Question about differential input resistance

Part Number: TCAN1042HG-Q1

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer asked about differential input resistance. Could you check the related questions below?

1. What is differential input resistance stand for? is it inside the IC? Or should I add sime resistors outside of the IC?

2. Why this value has ranges?

3. Could you recommend or give me equation to determine this value? (if I should add resistors outside if the IC)

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    1. This is the internal resistance between the CANH and CANL pin when the device is not driving the bus. It defines the overall bus load when multiple nodes are connected and it is inside the IC. No external resistors needed for this function.

    2. This accounts for process variation, temperature changes and voltage supply variations and compliant with the min ISO standard.

    3. You do not need to add external resistors. Only external resistors similar to figure 10-2 of the data sheet is recommended, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
