We are wanting to design a test board for automotive USB hubs using an active redriver/mux that can be used in two different setups. The first would be used as a PD sink and USB 2/3 5Gbps-device, for this setup we are currently using a TUSB1042 successfully. The new design needs to also be able to switch to being a PD sink and a display port source. What is the best chip to use, TUSB5461, TUSB1146, and TUSB1044A all look promising but we're not sure how to decide. We will include a PD controller/micro combination that can control the mux over I2C and is also capable of negotiating the DP PD routines and DR swap. Thanks.

Yes, we were hoping to use the same hardware setup and just change the configurations by software control, with the board's power role always being a PD sink. DP Config USB Config

Hi Eli,

Yes, this should work with the TUSB1146. It may be helpful to have a look at the TUSB1046/TUSB1146 EVM for reference.

The reason I recommend the TUSB1146 is because this is a part designed for 10Gbps (USB and DP) where the TUSB5461 and TUSB546 are designed for 5Gbps (USB), and 8Gbps (DP).
