DP83867IS: Test mode 4 and 5 do not work well

Part Number: DP83867IS

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Test modes 1, 2, and 3 work, but 4 and 5 do not.
Is there something wrong with the settings?

Test Mode 4

In this case, Low is output all the time.

Test Mode 5

In this case, the same result as test1 is output.

Best Regards,
Ryu.

  • Hi Ryu-san,

For test mode 4, does the customer see no output even when register 0x0025 is set to 0x0480? This sets output to come out to all channels.

For test mode 5, 0x0009 does not support 100Base-TX as that register is meant to send out 1000Base-TX signals.
What is the customer trying to do with test mode 5?

    Please let me know.

    Best,
    J

  • Hi J-san,

I have corrected the test mode 4 with the information you provided, but it did not improve.
I think the environment is not bad because I was able to perform test mode 4 when I used a PHY from another company.
Are there any other possible causes?

The following changes were also made to test mode 5, but did not improve it as well.
      Reg 0x1F = 0x8000
      Reg 0x0 = 0x2100
      Reg 0x10 = 0x5008
      Reg 0x1F = 0x4000

I think I can run test mode 5 with 100base because the following document seems to run test mode 5 with 100base, but is it wrong?

    https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snla239d/snla239d.pdf

Also, test mode 3 is missing from the documentation from this document.
I believe test mode 3 is required for compliance testing.
Does this mean that Test Mode 2 can be substituted?
Or is it just not mentioned?

    Best Regards,
    Ryu.

Has the PHY responded to other register writes? If you read the register values back after writing, does the register read match what you have written?

I think I can run test mode 5 with 100base because the following document seems to run test mode 5 with 100base, but is it wron

This document specifies generating 100base idle mode signal, not test mode 5.

Our 86x PHYs do not support compliance tests that require test mode 3 signal so the document doesn't mention them.
This is because we do not have the ability to provide TX_TCLK to the external pin and compliance tests that the PHY cannot provide the TX_TCLK signals are just informative and give inconclusive results.
