THVD2419: Surge protection on vson10 package tests?

Part Number: THVD2419

Tool/software:

Hello all,

I am also asking about the "Surge protection".

Have the data-sheet SLLSFP5A – JANUARY 2024 – REVISED AUGUST 2024

it explicitly notes the tests for the SOIC package, right ?

If this is so, does the VSON10 package handles the surge protection in the same way or not ?

Looking to use the transceiver, but not sure about what package to choose.

Please comment.

Best regards,

 Miha

  • Hi Miha,

So both packages have the same die and the same kind of surge protection circuit. The difference in the rating though is related to the parasitic of the package. The D package allows for better surge performance because of the added cap and inductances in the leadframe and bond wires which ended up helping it pass higher surge rating than the DRC.

So if you need higher internal surge protection than choosing the D package is better. If the 1.5kV surge protection is enough and you need a smaller package then the DRC will be the better choice.
