DP83867IR: latency

Part Number: DP83867IR

Tool/software:

What is the latency from the start of sending an Ethernet frame (to RGMII) to the reception of the Ethernet frame (also at the RGMII) of the remote station at 100 Mbit and at 1 Gbit?
Does it make a difference in latency whether standard Ethernet or SPE is used?
I just checked the DP83867IR datasheet. It has about 130 registers. Do I have to set a value for all registers here,
or:  are the default values sufficient for optimal communication, and I only have to set a few registers?
(familiarization with all the values would take a lot of time)
(on behalf of my customer)
Thanks and bye

  • Hi Hanno,

The latency specification should be available in the datasheet. Please check out section 6.9 in SNLS484.

Regarding latency, the PHY used will likely have the biggest impact. SPE PHYs could have different latency numbers than Standard ethernet PHYs.

Regarding register values, there is no need to set a value for all registers. In most circumstances, if strapped correctly, PHY should work out of the box.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
