TLK10034: 1000BASE-KX Support Without Firmware/Registry Update / XFI Connection Support

Part Number: TLK10034
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK10232, , TLK10031

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am trying to ascertain the following for the TLK10034, TLK10031, and TLK10232 series PHYs.

1.  Will the PHYs support both 10GBASE-KR and 1000BASE-KX "as-is" with no firmware load or registry update required?  If registry update is required, is this in non-volatile memory?  If firmware is required, is external Flash required for storage?

2.  Will the PHYs support 10GBASE-R (non-backplane levels) AND 1000BASE-X? The datasheet says it will support 10GBASE-R but does not mention 1000BASE-X Is any registry updates or firmware required?

3.  I am trying to connect to a Marvell 88X3340 quad-port IC, via XFI.   The datasheet for the TLK10034 says it supports XFI (see below), but does not specify the proper connection or strapping/mode settings.  Can I use the TLK10034 via XFI as described, and what would be the proper pin connections?

Thank You for any help!

  • 1. These devices require configuration of registers.  These are volatile registers.

    Please see attached document.

    2. My understanding is that you're interested in using the TLK10232 with SFP/SFP+.  The data sheet notes that both SFP and SFP+ are supported.

    3. I would recommend following guidance for 10G-KR bringup.  You will then configure the TLK10232 with link training, FEC, and auto negotiation disabled.

    Thanks,

    Drew
