It was observed during the EMC testing (8kv pulse) that the TCAN1145 transceiver switches to StandBy mode and the communication is not auto recovered without switching the transceiver back to Normal state. During analysis it was found that the transceiver detects under voltage scenario during EMC testing and that is the reason why it moved to fail-safe mode/standby mode.

Is this behavior expected?

TCAN1145 Datasheet states that the "The family comes with high on-chip IEC ESD protection, but if higher levels of system level immunity are desired external TVS diodes can be used." also maximum ESD rating as 8000v.

Could you please share the EMC test reports which was conducted by 3rd party?

Hi Subhash,

Yes it is expected that when a high voltage ESD event occurs, it can introduce a large transient current into the circuit, and if the ground path isn't robust enough, it can cause the ground potential to momentarily deviate from its intended reference level, leading to a ground shift. Because of the undervoltage threshold is referenced to ground, it is possible to see the undervoltage event in this case.

Hello Sean,

One more clarification. In case the transceiver switches to standby mode due to under voltage condition, is switching back to the Normal state after recovering from UV is enough to continue with the communication or a reset is needed?

Hi Subhash,

Once it recovers from UV, it will still remain in the standby mode first, I would recommend to clear the UVSUP interrupt (or INT_1, INT_2, INT_3 registers) then switching back to normal mode.
