data sheet shows absolute maximum input voltage range to be from -0.5 to 6V . i want to know the recommended operating

8.3 only reflects VIH min and VIL max

i want to know what is the max recommended operating voltage for VIH & min recommended operating voltage VIL?

Sharan,

Clemens is incorrect.

Read the abs. max table directly in the datasheet - it isn't hard to find.

But really you should be bounded by VCC - so 0V to 3.3V (or whatever the exact voltage VCC is) - this part is LVTTL - so you need to ensure LVTTL logic levels.
