TUSB8041-Q1: Is connecting PWRCTL1/BATEN1 mandatory?

Part Number: TUSB8041-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB319-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

There is a Power On Control for Downstream Power Enable which is a pin PWRCTL1/BATEN1 for the Hub Controller IC TUSB8041-Q1. Also, there is an ID pin which is asserted low when the CC pins detect device attachment for CC Controller TUSB319-Q1. I am using both these ICs on my board. So, I wanted to know which pin PWRCTL1/BATEN1 of the Hub or ID of the CC Controller should be connected to the EN pin of Power Switch.

I also want to connect the ALERT pin from the Power switch to the OVERCUR1z pin of USB Hub controller so that it detects overcurrent if any. So, I am not sure if I will have to mandatorily connect PWRCTL1/BATEN1 of the Hub Controller IC TUSB8041-Q1 to the EN pin of Power Switch.

May I know what will happen if I don't connect PWRCTL1/BATEN1 of USB Hub controller?

Regards,
Adithya

  • if you use CC controller to control Vbus, then , you don't need to use PWRON pin to control Vbus .

  • Hi Brian,

Thank you for the response. If I use ID pin of CC controller to enable or disable VBUS, then I am not using PWRON pin of the Hub controller to control VBUS. But, in that case how will I be able to use the overcurrent detection functionality of the Hub Controller because once overcurrent is detected, then Hub controller should disable VBUS using PWRON pin.

Please let me know this as I have to anyways use the Hub Controller in order to have 4 downstream ports and I also need the CC controller to connect to a C type connector.

  • Hi Brian,

Please let me know if TUSB8041-Q1 USB Hub is controllable within the Android environment?

    Thanks and Regards,

  • for type-C port, Vbus switch should has overcurrent out put pin. you can use overcurrent pin  to disable Vbus switch when overcurrent happens.

for tyep-A port, still use hub PWRON pin to control Vbus switch.

TUSB8041-Q1 USB Hub is should work within the Android environment like other USB hubs.
