Trouble installing TUSB3410 EEPROM Burner

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410, TUSB3410UARTPDK, TUSB6250

Hi,

I am unable to install the TUSB3410 EEPROM burner s/w on Windows 7. I read through the PDF and attempted to uninstall all TI drivers before doing so but I still receive an error. During the installation I encounter a message box w/test "SetupCopyOEMInf() Failed with error 0x2". The installation then continues and appears to install correctly but the program does not see the device.

Also, per the instructions I tried to remove the associated registry keys but was unable to do so after detaching the USB device, removing all the programs, rebooting and restarting regedit under Admin.

I was successfully using the dongle (TUSB3410UARTPDK) as an RS-232 to USB converter. I wanted to test the EEPROM burner and inserted a new EEPROM device prior to installing the burner s/w.

Lastly, I searched the TI forums and found a post w/a similar problem, here. But that does not seem to apply.

Any ideas?

Thanks much.

  • Hello Paul,

After the software installation plug the device without EEPROM and the drivers starts to install through the “Hardware Update Wizard”. During the driver installation you will get a “windows security”  window (Fig1) please select the “Install this software anyway” option. and wait for the device enumeration, after the enumeration, the EEPROM burner software are going to list the “TI EEPROM TUSB6250 burner” instance. If you can’t see the TI EEPROM burner instance, could you please send us what are you getting on the device manager when you connect the device?

    Fig 1

Regarding to the error that you are getting during the software installation, could you please sent us an screen shot of this error?

    Regards,

    Roberto.

  • Hi Roberto,

Thank you for responding. I followed your instructions. The first error I receive is depicted below:

Once I acknowledge the message box, I receive a second error depicted in the following bitmap:

Once I acknowledge the second message box, the installation completes and it appears that the EEPROM burner has installed. However, when I plug in the USB device, I am unable to install a driver to associate with it. The device does show up in the Device Manager as "TUSB3410 Boot Device". Note this is w/out an EEPROM installed on the board as you requested.

If I attempt to run the installed program, I [understandably] receive the following error:

I am logged in as Admin on the local computer. It is a Lenovo W520 Laptop running Windows 7 Pro. with all of the latest OS patches.

Appreciate any additional help you can provide.

    Thank you,

    --Paul

  • Paul,

The first two error appears when you  don’t select the “Install this software anyway” option during the installation (FIG 1). If you don’t select this options the EEPROM burner driver will not be installed and your device will not be recognized for the TUSBxxxx EEPROM burner software. Could you please verify that you are selecting this option?

     Fig 1

For the last error message that you are getting in Win7, this message appears because this software has been created for a XP environment, however, the software can be used in Win7\Vista and this error does not cause a bad functionality of the software, so  please just ignore it and click OK.

    Regards,

    Roberto

  • Hi Roberto,

I know of this dialog; I've seen it before installing other s/w packages but I don't see it when I try to install the TUSB3410 package. I run Setup.exe as administrator and I run the Setup.exe w/the following properties:

Is it possible I have a different version of the install then you?

    Thanks,

    --Paul

  • Hi Paul,

It’s the same version that I’m using, could you please download it again from http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sllc259a just to avoid any download error? is that possible to try this in a clean system? apparently for some reason your system are denying the installation of unsigned drivers as default. If you are using a 64-bit you‘ll need to boot your system using the “Disable driver signature enforcement” mode. You can activate this mode pressing F8 at your system startup and select this option.

    Regards,

    Roberto.

  • Hi Roberto,

    I did the following:

    •  uninstalled the previous installation
    • downloaded the package again using your link
    • scanned the registry and file system to clear any remnants of the s/w
    •  restarted as you requested (above); I do have a 64-bit version of WIndows 7 Professional

Unfortunately, still encountered the same behavior. I thought I'd provide some add'l details.

During the installation process I see a small message box w/two buttons pop up for VERY briefly. Once the installation passes the "wizard" screens it minimizes and all I see is the desktop again. Shortly thereafter, I see a small message box w/two buttons. It displays very briefly and then goes away so I cannot see what it says. It looks like a query of some sort.

I am a developer so I have a lot of tools on my system. I don't have any driver development tools on this computer but I have MSDEV, some Eclipse SDKs, Xilinx tools, etc. I do a lot of embedded software and I remembered I have the TI SDK for the Stellaris Cortex-III CPU. It has a FLASH programming utility which I've used and it seemed to work fine. I *think* it connects over USB but tunnels RS232 as with the TUSB3410. But I can't see how that would interfere with this installation.

I also use Norton for AV/FW but I've never had a problem with it interfering w/any software tools/installation.

    Thanks,

  • Paul,

Unfortunately the EEPROM Burner driver don’t support 64-bit systems. Could you please try using a 32-bit system?

    Regards,

    Roberto.

  • OK, I didn't know that. I'll see if I can locate a 32-bit system to try this.

BTW, can someone please update the assoc'd documentation for Windows 7? The PDF for the driver s/w (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slla170f/slla170f.pdf) implies it does for Vista and XP so I assumed it did for Windows 7:

"The initial version of the driver was for Windows platforms only (Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows XP). The current Windows version supports 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista."

    Thanks for all your help.

  • Will this ever work on 64 bit systems?
