ti.com says, that the new PHY is optimized for EtherCAT. I would like to know where the difference is from the predecessor 826E. I looked at the specification and found nothing at first sight.
Second, I want to know if this PHY can be replaced (826E by 826AE) without a redesign of the HW and SW.

Hello,
Compared to DP83826, DP83826A has been enhanced with more strapping configurations in enhanced mode, as well as a new strap applicable in enhanced or basic mode.
Below is the new enhanced mode flowchart which will be reflective in datasheet upon new revision.
Please note that Reg 0x3 will be different to distinguish between device models.
