SN65DP159: Can you use the SN65DP159 without Hot Plug Detect?

Part Number: SN65DP159

Tool/software:

After manufacturing the board assembly with the SN65DP159 chip, I realized there was no trace leaving HPD_SINK, pin #33. I have cut the HPD wire on a standard HDMI cable and it worked, but I was wondering if this system will not function if HPD_SINK goes to nothing. Any help with the use of this chip would be very helpful!

The HPD_SNK signal has an internal typical 190k pulldown termination on it.

So if the HPD_SNK is left open, it will be pulled low by the internal 190k resistor and DP159 will get into the Power Down mode

You can pull HPD_SNK pin to 5V so DP159 can be in normal operation or you can write a value of 1 to bit 2 of register 0x09 so DP159 will not go into Power Down mode when HPD_SNK is low.

    Thanks
