TCAN3404-Q1: ISO11898-2 certification

Part Number: TCAN3404-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN3404,

Tool/software:

Dear team,

The datasheet of TCAN3404-Q1 mentions "Compatible with the requirements of ISO 11898-2:2016 physical layer standard." But I referred to the ISO11898:2 2016 and single ended voltage VCAN_H=2.75V_min, VCAN_L=0.5V_min is not satisfied by TCAN3404. On the other hand, differential voltage Vdiff=1.5V_min is satisfied.

Can we understand the mention on datasheet as it meets differential voltage requirements?

And can we understand there is no issue on communicating with 5V CAN?

Best regards,
Yuto

  • Hi Yuto,

The ISO compatibility refers to differential level requirements of the standard and timing / EMC / faultt specs etc.

The ISO spec do not define 3.3 V and the single ended levels are part of the 5 V tests which will be dependent on the network. The TCAN3404 can safely interoperate in a 5 V CAN network as long as the network bias are set per ISO standards. Please see Overview of 3.3V CAN Transceivers for more information, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
