DP83TC812S-Q1: DP83TC812S-Q1 SGMII Master vs Slave mode difference

Part Number: DP83TC812S-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

Could you help me understand better the difference in running this PHY in master vs slave mode in SGMII mode.  The configuration tool shows the difference in strapping (see below)  but I wasn't able to determine from datasheet what is the difference between the two modes (in SGMII mode not RMII).

From hardware design perspective, seem like clocking is not changed it's the same 25Mhz clock into X1.

Thank you.

  • Hi Vitaliy,

This table is organized by rows so that the "MAC Interface" boostrap pins are RX_D0/1/2, and the "M/S Configuration" is an different setting controlled by the bootstrap on LED_0.

The "M/S Configuration" setting refers to the master/slave configuration of the PHY in the 100M SPE Ethernet link and isn't related to the MAC interface. So changing this master/slave status doesn't affect the bootstraps needed to select the SGMII interface.

    Best,

    Evan Su
