  • Hi Shekha,

Copper pour around PCIe data traces is not required, but it can help prevent crosstalk if the traces are traveling for long distances on surface layers by catching radiated energy before it couples to another trace. We add copper pours on our EVMs for example. However it requires careful design to be helpful, for example by placing a lot of vias on the edges near the traces. Many customers skip it due to cost or complexity reasons.

if so do we need to copper pour on both sides of tranceiver signals?

Ideally it there would be copper pours on both sides of a differential pair as it travels on a surface layer. I can retrieve some pictures from our EVM layout later when I have a moment.

    Best,
