National Semiconductor Ethernet phy

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83640, DP83630

hi,

I'm interested in National'sethernet RMII phy, in robotic application.

Can someone tell me if the basic DP83848I and the Precision PHYTER DP83630 or DP83640 are pinout compatible.

if someone has already used this, there's a real improvement in use the precision series?

thanks

Massimo Santoni

  • You might want to post this in an appropriate forum for a better response.  This forum is for Stellaris microcontrollers.

  • ok, sorry.... I was redirected here from the National's website....

Hi Massimo, DP83640 has LLP chip carrier so it is not a direct replacement, DP83848 and DP83630 have same LQFP chip carrier and also few different pin function, so you can swap them with care about different pin usage (GPIO versus DGND).

DP836x0 differ from 83848 by implementation of IEEE 1588 clock synchronization so few pin support this protocol extension, check page 9 and 10 of relative datasheet.

Are you planning use with Stellaris series? If so why not use a chip with internal PHY and IEEE 1588 too?

Thank you very much for the explanation!

I've planned to use a St32 arm cortex microcontroller, and i'm searching for an easy to use phy chip....

After a few searches I found that I don't need a precision series chip.

thank to all to the support (also if this isn't the right section...)
