SN65HVD1471: SN65HVD1471D Support Half-Duplex RS-485 Communication

Part Number: SN65HVD1471

Tool/software:

Hi

We are using the SN65HVD1471D in an RS-485 bus where we intend to operate it in half-duplex mode (same differential pair for TX and RX). We have externally shorted the Y to A and Z to B to create a shared bus line.

We are able to transmit data successfully, but no data is received at the R pin. We suspect the lack of DE/RE pins prevents proper driver disable during reception.

Could you confirm whether SN65HVD1471D supports half-duplex operation in this manner?

  • Hi Dimple,

If you are trying to switch from driver to receiver, it won't work since the driver will always be active without the DE/RE pins to disable the driver when it wants to receive signals.

If you need to support a half duplex mode, you'll need to respin the board with a different device with the DE/RE pins.
