SN74LVC1T45: SN74LVC1T45 I/O naming confusion

The direction of level shifting on the SN74LVC1T45 can be controlled through its DIR pin.

Table 4-1 defines VCCA as the SYSTEM-1 supply votlage input and therefore A as I/O-1.

However, table 8-2 on page 16, state 4 says I/O-1 is input, I/O-2 is output when DIR=LOW, with description "SYSTEM-2 data to SYSTEM-1".

This makes no sense and seems backwards. How can I/O-1 (A) be an input if the direction is from B to A? Same thing with state 1.
