DS160PR410: Differences between IBIS_AMI_v1 and S_Parameter_v2

Part Number: DS160PR410

Tool/software:

Hello,

I recently downloaded TI_DS160PR410_IBIS_AMI_v1

and TI_DS160PR410_S_Parameter_v2 from “www.ti.com/secureresources/DS160PR410-DESIGN.”

In “TI_DS160PR410_Ibis-AMI_Model_UG.pdf”,

“Figure 2. ADS Simulation Setup,” only the RX S-parameter, ReDriver_AMI, and TX S-parameter for the DS160PR410 are used.

When using TI_DS160PR410_IBIS_AMI_v1,

do I not need to use the S-parameters included in TI_DS160PR410_S_Parameter_v2 ?

How should TI_DS160PR410_IBIS_AMI_v1 and TI_DS160PR410_S_Parameter_v2 be used differently?

Best regards,

  • Hi Hayato-san,

The "TI_DS160PR410_S_Parameter_v2" file is the S-parameter characterization of the entire device behavior (redriver EQ and package effects) while the IBIS-AMI model is a simulation characterization of the EQ behavior. They are alternatives for each other and should not be used at the same time.

In the IBIS-AMI example project, the IBIS-AMI model is used with the package S-parameters. The package S-parameters should not be confused with the complete device S-parameters. If a simulation was to use the complete device S-parameters as a replacement for the IBIS-AMI model, then the package S-parameters should be removed.

The reason we provide the complete S-parameters in addition to the IBIS-AMI model is because some customers use software that either does not support or has issues with IBIS-AMI models. The behavior may be slightly different between the two models but both are considered reasonably accurate representations of the device performance.

    Best,

  • Hi Evan-san,

    Thank you very much.
I appreciate your accurate and clear answer.

    Best regards,

  • No problem. I will close this thread for now, but you can continue here if you have other questions in the future.
