DP83867CR: Suitable PoE integrated magnetics and PoE layout?

Part Number: DP83867CR

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have the choice of a few integrated magnetics RJ45's to use with this part, is it possible to get some feedback on which one is the most suitable please?

LPJK6064AONL

LPJK6069BHNL

LPJK6071A9NL

LPJK6072AHNL

LPJK6077AHNL

Is DP83867CR suitable to use within a PoE design, and do you have any specific design recommendations for using it?

Many thanks,

G

  • Hi Graham,

We have a PoE reference design: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-010083
Please refer to this design for design recommendations.

In terms of magnetics recommendation, we recommend

    LPJK6072AHNL

    LPJK6077AHNL

out of the five magnetics, but please note that we typically recommend -35dB for crosstalk but these have -30dB.

    Best,
    J

  • Hi J,

    Thank you for your reply.

Would you be able to explain why those are the most suitable please? Just so I understand for the future.

I thought LPJK6069BHNL might be good due to hing more common mode chokes? Is there a reason why it is not?

    Regards,

    G

  • Hi Graham,

On our datasheet, we recommend magnetics with separate center tap for each channel and with the following specification:

Some of the magnetics had integrated center tap (all channels short to the same capacitors) and some did not meet the turns ratio. Lastly, some also did not meet the crosstalk specifications.
We recommend magnetics like Pulse HX5008NL so please refer to that specification also.

    Best,
    J
