PCA9306: PCA9306

Part Number: PCA9306
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LSF0102

Tool/software:

A couple of questions relative to the IBIS model

 - The IBIS model uses the term "VCC" but the part uses VREF1 and VREF2 - Which does VCC relate to?

 - The IBIS model has 5 voltage "settings" for PCA9306_IO, which also uses the term VCC - Which does VCC relate to - VREF1 or VREF2?

 - The IBIS model has 5 voltage "settings" for PCA9306_IO_S, which also uses the term VCC - If I have 1.8V on VREF1 and 2.5V on VREF2, which VCC do I choose for my simulation?

I have BCCed a co-worker (Randy) on this thread so he might have some follow up quesitons, too.

  • Hi Shane,

    I believe the PCA9306 IBIS model is setup in the voltage translation mode when using the series switch model. VCC looks to be mapped to the EN pin of the device which would affect the gate voltage of each passFET connecting side 1 to side 2 of the device. See the LSF0102 structure which is very similar to PCA9306 internal structure.

    By selecting PCA9306_IN_50A, this selects a VCC = 5V, which means that EN = 5V, and RDS_ON will be smaller, allowing more current to pass through the device.

    PCA9306_IN_12A, would be worse case since VCC = 1.2V, EN = 1.2V, gate voltage is much less which means Ron will be higher reduce current through the device.

     - The IBIS model has 5 voltage "settings" for PCA9306_IO_S, which also uses the term VCC - If I have 1.8V on VREF1 and 2.5V on VREF2, which VCC do I choose for my simulation?

    For most accurate sim results, I would choose PCA9306_IN_25 in this case (2.5 volt VCC) model.

    Thank you for the quick response -  can you please provide more detail on the PCA9306_IO_S, setup. If my VREF1 is 1.8V and my VREF2 is 2.5V, which setting do I choose for PCA9306_IO_S,?

    Thanks

    Shane

  • Hello Shane,

    We'll provide feedback by EOD. Thank you!

    Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Shane,

    VREF1 = 1.8V,

    VREF2 = 2.5V,

    PCA9306_IN25

    This would be closest model match to your scenario.

    Regards,

    Tyler
