TCAN2845-Q1: TCAN28473/5. SBC Query

Part Number: TCAN2845-Q1

Tool/software:

 Hi,

One of my customer is considering TCAN28473/5 for automotive design. We are planning to use this regulator supply 3.3V to an off-board sensor, and it is essential that this supply is protected against both short to battery and short to ground conditions.

Could you please confirm whether the VEXCC regulator is protected for both short to GND and short to battery?

Looking forward to your response.

Regards

Dilip

  • Hi Dilip,

Yes VEXCC is protected from short to battery through its OV monitor + its abs max rating which is 40V and Vo<= VSUP+0.3 - since VSUP is battery connection as long as you are under 40V for the battery short you should avoid damage.

The OV path on VEXCC looks like below

For short to ground the VEXCC output is protected by the short circuit monitor - which follows the following process:

So there is protection for the offboard sensor if powered by VEXCC from short to battery and short to ground.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
