DP83867E: Communication fail at 100m cable with register settings of the troubleshooting guide implemented

Part Number: DP83867E

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer noticed that when below register setting which is introduced in the troubleshooting guide is implemented, the device can't communicate properly when using 100m cable and link downshift occurred.

Then, he disabled Downshift, but it didn't resolve the issue.

[Question]

  1. Why above setting leads to communication fail when using 100m cable?
  2. What is workaround for the issue?
  3. If register setting of the troubleshooting guide is not implemented, what is concern?
It would result in degradation of somewhat EMI performance, is there any data how much it can be worsen?

Best regards,

Shota Mago

  • Hi Mago-san,

    1. The above setting may lead to communication fail because the optimization is suitable for the customer's system.
    2. The workaround would be not to use the script. However, has the customer used the script because they saw failure on the IEC61000 4-6 test?
    3. There is not much concern unless the customer was failing the ESD test. There shouldn't be much impact on normal operation.

Please let me know what issue customer is facing specifically so we can better help them.

    Best,
    J
