SN75DP119: Long-distance eDP transmission

Part Number: SN75DP119
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1146, TDP142

Tool/software:

I want to transmit eDP signals over 2m using a Type C cable, but if I insert the SN75DP119 on the receiving end, will this be possible? Or is it not enough to just insert the SN75DP119?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi,

Do you know the loss of this 2m Type-C cable? The DP119 has a fixed RX EQ that provides 0dB, 3dB, and 6dB compensation. The source should also have pre-emphasis that can provide the compensation for the 2m Type-C cable.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi,

It's unclear at this point whether a redriver IC is sufficient, whether it's unnecessary, or if a retimer IC is actually required on the sink side.
The source side uses a TUSB1146, but the amount of signal degradation over a 2m Type-C cable is still unknown.
Since the standard transmission distance for eDP is also unclear, it's difficult to determine whether this setup will work reliably.
Is this something that can only be determined through testing?

    Regards,

  • Hi,

Yes, you should able to test it out. Unfortunately we do not have a DP1159 EVM available for testing. Is it possible that you can take a TDP142 EVM and use it as a test vehicle?

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

    Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, it would be difficult for us to evaluate using the TDP142 EVM, as the connector does not match our setup.
Thank you again. we will try evaluating it in our actual system.

    Best regards,
