TFP410: TFP410: RGB to HDMI Bridge

Part Number: TFP410

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team,

I am planning to use TFP410 in my design to covert RGB to HDMI. But my SoC RGB is operating at 1.2V.

Could you please let me whether it is good to add a level shifter from 1.2 to 3.3/1.8 in terms of HDMI output data performance? If the answer is Yes, then please suggest a level shifter which I can use here which do not affect the performance of this HDMI bridge.

Regards

Shyam

  • Hello Shyam,

The AXC product family seems like a good candidate. However, can you confirm the number of signals you plan to level shift and at what speed? Looking at the TFP410 datasheet, there is a 165MHz max frequency but not sure if this applies to CMOS signals. Thank you!

    Regards

    Josh

  • Dear TI Team,

Is it really required to use the level shifter if my SoC RGB888 data is working in 1.2V to interface with TFP410?

Is it possible to connect the RGB888 directly to the TFP410 input data pins?

    Regards
    Shyam

  • Hello Shyam,

This all depends if the TFP410 is able to accept 1.2V signals.

Since I don't support TFP410 I may be looking at something wrong but I see VDD requires voltages from 3.0V to 3.6V

The datasheet notes VIH needs to be 0.7*VDD (or 2.31V using VDD = 3.3V) while VIL needs to be 0.3*VDD (or 0.99V using VDD = 3.3V). This means if you are sending a 1.2V signal, the TFP410 won't be able to detect it.

    Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,

Thank you for the quick response.

I have seen in the datasheet that it can support low swing mode as well for the 1.1V to 1.8V signalling levels. Below is the datasheet snaps fyi.

I may be wrong in understanding the operating voltage logic between high swing and low swing mode, so could you please check and let me know whether its correct or not?

  • Hello Shyam,

I would recommend you create another post with this question and tag the TFP410. I would like to help but I don't know this part and could give you an incorrect answer.

    Regards,

    Josh
