Why 120 ohm is preferred for termination resistor, is there any specific reason or any calculation behind that.

    Yes, twisted-pair cables used for CAN are typically rated for 100 to 130 ohms. 120 ohms is the standardized nominal value matching most automotive cable harnesses, further preventing unintended signal reflections. Hence, two parallel 120 ohms at both ends of the bus for an effective impedance of 60 ohms, well within the drive capability of automotive transceivers.
