Hi All,

We are using MAX3232E in our design for UART-to-RS232 conversion. We need to provide flow control signals(CTS & RTS) from MCU to RS232 connector. Which signal i need to use for this?

    Hello Hareesh, 

    To provide flow control signals from MCU to RS232, you can pick from the following signals listed. CTS/RTS are similar to TXD/RXD in the sense that they are another transmit/receiver pair. Therefore, for an example, you can tie CTS and RTS to RIN2 and DOUT2.

    Hi Jones,

    Thanks for the confirmation. 

    One more doubt regarding the connection you have mentioned, 

    RIN2 & DOUT2 are the level shifted RS232 signals. So, from MCU side i will have to connect as per the below diagram

    MCU       MAX232
    CTS----> DIN2(PIN_10)
    RTS----> ROUT2(PIN_9)

    MAX232       Remote RS232 system

    RIN2 -------> CTS (Remote RS232 system)

    DOUT2 ----> RTS (Remote RS232 system)
