TLK2501 : you cannot rap the RX_CLK into the GTX_CLK

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK2501

FAE has a customer that would like to rap the RX_CLK into the GTX_CLK and would like to know how to do this with this TLK2501. FAE is looking at the block diagram on page 4 of the datasheet and he does not see how this can be done. If it can he would like to know how.

  • The TLK2501's RX_CLK output cannot be wrapped to the GTX_CLK input.

GTX_CLK is a reference clock that is multiplied by a multiplying clock synthesizer to generate an internal bit rate clock.  This bit rate clock is used by the device's clock recovery circuit to lock to an incoming serial data stream.  The serial data is converted to parallel, decoded, and outputted along with RX_CLK.  Because the TLK2501 uses the GTX_CLK input to generate the RX_CLK output, it is not possible to wrap RX_CLK to GTX_CLK.
