I don't think we have anything like this. (That specifically focuses on RS232 and encompasses an extensive guide on this)

Is your question limited to RS232 or more broad? (RS485 is generally used as a more robust interface than RS232 which is singled ended and can be affected by noise)

Do you need isolation in your system? If so, I can try to loop in the isolation product line to see if they have recommendations and documents.

For RS232, you will want bi-directional TVS diodes. I can assign this thread to our protection devices product line if you want recommendations for TI devices.

For RS485 (I guess you could use this for RS232 if you choose a lower voltage SIDAC), here is how to protect against shorts that could damage the device:

I would recommend ESDS552 (12V) or ESD652 (18V) depending on the max expected voltage swing.
