SN65LVDS100/101 Transmission distance

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVDS100, TLK6201EA

Hi,

I'd like to know transmission distance of SN65LVDS100/101 (or LVDT) via cable for 750Mbps/1Gbps/1.5Gbps/3Gbps data rate. Have you ever evaluated it?  If you haven't  could you give me approximate value?

Best regards,

Tetsuro

  • Hi Tetsuro,

What kind of cable they would like to use? Will the same device be on both ends of the link (i.e. transmitter and receiver)?

    Best regards.

    Hassan

  • Hi Tetsuro,

I've attached a report with some results I measured in June last year with the LVDS100 and also the TLK6201EA at 1.5Gbps and with Cat5E cables. I hope the report will give the customer some idea of the device capabilities and some configuration options.

Please let me know if further information is needed.

    Best regards.

    Hassan.

  • Hassan,

Thank you very much for the data.  I beleive it is one of example to give some ideas to the cusotmer.  However it turend out that the customer planed to use Cat. 7 cable, it should have better performance than Cat. 5E.  For my understanding the transmission distance is really depend on cable structure and isolation dielectric as well as data rate. But I can not explain it theoriticaly and estimate how much distance the customer can gain with Cat.7.  Could you give me any idea or hint how I approch to the customer with the Cat. 5E data.

    Best regards,

    Tetsuro

  • Tetsuro,

Due to Cat7's lower attenuation and much better attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio (ACR) , I'd say approximately 20% longer Cat7 cable can be supported compared to Cat5E. Unfortunately we do not have Cat7 cables here in our lab so I cannot make measurements.

    Best regards.

    Hassan.
