HVDA551-Q1: CANH CANL waveform jitter

HVDA551-Q1: CANH & CANL short to GND failure

Tool/software:

Hi Expert,

Customer find there is HVDA551-Q1 failure in their vehicle. The phenomena is: CANH to GND is 3ohm. CANHL to GND is 4ohm. External components like TVS and cap are all good. 

Now they use  SMAJ18CA as TVS protection. 

My question: 

1. Could you evaluate the TVS is suitable?

2. Any comments for this failure?

    Hi Beida,

    1. This will depend on the environment I.e., the energy it is specified for vs the energy the system produces and unable to evaluate without understanding the levels of concern.

    2. Unfortunately, you will have to evaluate the transient levels during failure to be able to properly comment as I suspect transients > the abs max ratings most likely caused the issue. Hence, based on transient level and will recommend verifying with all external components removed but including mainly the termination resistor and TVS diode as needed similar to section 11 of the data sheet, to verify, thanks.
